Websites and SEO for health and beauty

What to think about before you publish.

Clinics, salons, skin clinics, injectors, gyms, Pilates studios and allied health. You have two sets of rules: Google's, and the regulators'.

What to think about.

  1. 01AHPRA rules

If you're AHPRA-registered, you can't use testimonials about clinical care on your own site or ads. Reviews patients leave on Google are a different matter.
  2. 02TGA rules

You can't name a prescription-only medicine or injectable brand on a public page. Write about the concern and the treatment category instead.
  3. 03Claims and images

Words like 'best', 'painless' and 'guaranteed', and before-and-after photos, all have rules. Compliant wording still ranks.
  4. 04One page per treatment or class

People search for the treatment or the class, not your business name. Each one needs its own clear page.
  5. 05Found locally

Google Maps and your Google Business Profile set up properly. That's where most nearby searches happen.
  6. 06Reviews and directories

Google reviews, HealthEngine and HotDoc are what AI tools read when someone asks for a clinic nearby.
  7. 07Booking and timetables

Connected to the system you already use, whether that's Mindbody, Fresha or Cliniko, and one tap away on a phone.

More detail.

Questions people ask.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's marketing from someone who's worked under these rules. For edge cases, check with your practice manager, your professional body or a lawyer.

Does this apply to beauty salons?

If you offer cosmetic injectables or treatments that use a therapeutic good, yes. If not, you mainly need to avoid misleading claims.

Do you know studios and gyms?

Yes. I've worked in gyms and Pilates studios and led marketing at Yoga Australia, so I know how people choose one.

Can AI tools recommend my clinic?

Yes. Clear, compliant treatment pages and steady Google reviews are what they read.
